As noted in previous blogs the sample identified as B5163 has ordered Full Genome’s Y Elite sequencing test. This revealed 21 SNPs not yet found any other CTS4466 individual. It is the private markers which are the most rewarding part process.
The private variants represent those which developed since a split from the currently O’Donoghue dominated A804 branch. Therefore these markers represent the most likely candidates for confirming if someone is an Irish Type 2 Keane/Kane with a single $35 genetic test. Of course the problem is identifying which of these represents the first SNP fully associated with the surname.
To this end considerable effort was spent to narrow the list down to seven SNPs which are considered stable markers, and can be tested with Sanger testing. These are currently being confirmed by an independent genetic lab for assembly into a ten marker “block breaker” panel. Once the first round is complete a fully developed Keane/Kane SNP panel will be offered for other’s to purchase with an anticipated cost of $185 plus shipping & handling.
The panel will start at S1121 and proceed down to FGC29077. While the exact order they occurred in remains unknown, this does provide a useful stimulus to determine how closely the group is related. Each marker will represent approximately 80 to 150 years of history. The more each person taking the test finds in common the more recently their common ancestor was walking around somewhere in Munster.
The complete list of SNPs being evaluated are as follows:
CTS8162, FGC29066, FGC29067, FGC29069, FGC29071, FGC29072, FGC29074, FGC29075, FGC29076, FGC29077
More to follow as YSEQ returns results on the verification run.
